For Homeowners
Welcome. If you're thinking about Thermowood for a home you're building, renovating, or designing yourself, here's how this works from start to finish.
Start with the sample box
Before you commit to a material, you should hold it in your hand. Our sample box contains eight 8-inch samples across all four categories Pine Cladding, Radiata Cladding, Ayous Cladding, Pine Decking, and Aspen Interior plus color cards showing how the wood fresh-milled color differs from its weathered silver-grey. It's the fastest way to confirm Thermowood is the right choice for your project.
Measure your project
For cladding, measure the wall area in square feet, then add 10% for waste (more if your wall has a lot of windows or complex geometry). Divide by the coverage listed on the product page most of our cladding covers 5 inches face width, which means 2.4 linear feet per square foot of wall.
For decking, measure the deck in square feet, add 10% for waste, and divide by coverage the same way.
We'll have a proper coverage calculator on the site soon. In the meantime, if you'd like a second set of eyes on your measurements, email sales@stickssupply.com with a rough sketch; we're happy to check your math before you order.
Choose your species and profile
The four species in our range:
- Pine (Thermo-D) our value-tier cladding and decking. Warm honey-brown, works with most home styles. Starts at $2.93/lft.
- Radiata Pine (TMT) a step up. Tighter grain, deeper brown, higher treatment grade. $6.30/lft.
- Ayous (Thermo-D) premium hardwood cladding. Deep uniform caramel tone, hardwood feel at softwood pricing. $6.48/lft.
- Aspen (TMT) for interior walls, ceilings, and sauna benches. Light, bright, and cool to the touch. Starts at $3.10/lft.
The profile (TG-I, TG-Lap, D1, etc.) is mostly a visual decision different reveal widths create different shadow lines on a finished wall or deck. Our sample box includes cross-section cards that show each profile to scale.
Place your order
Order directly through the site. For orders above 500 square feet we'll follow up to confirm delivery details, and for anything over 2,000 square feet we'll typically ship palletized with curbside drop. Standard lead time is 2-4 weeks from order confirmation.
Install
Most of our cladding and decking is DIY-friendly if you're comfortable with a miter saw and a nail gun. Tongue-and-groove cladding installs with hidden stainless steel ring-shank nails driven through the tongue at 45°. Our decking can be face-screwed or installed with hidden clips (the D1-HF profile).
A few key installation notes:
- Maintain a 3/4" ventilation gap behind cladding fasten through furring strips, not directly to sheathing.
- Seal all cut ends with an end-grain sealer.
- Minimum 12 inches from grade on exterior installations.
- Let the boards acclimate 48 hours on-site before installation.
If you'd rather have a pro install it, we can often point you to contractors in your region who work with Thermowood. Ask when you order.
Care for it
Left untreated, Thermowood weathers from its original honey-brown to a uniform silver-grey over 18-36 months. The patina is aesthetic only structural performance doesn't depend on it.
To preserve the original color, apply a penetrating oil finish (PPG ProLuxe or equivalent) within 30 days of installation, then annually on south- and west-facing elevations and every 2-3 years elsewhere.
For cleaning: warm water and a soft brush. Never use a high-pressure washer it lifts grain on any wood siding.
