Sustainability

Durable by heat, not by chemicals.

Our boards start as slow-grown Nordic pine from FSC- and PEFC-certified forests, and get their 25-year durability from heat and steam alone — modified in Finland to the ThermoWood® standard. Nothing added means nothing to leach out, and nothing to apologize for at end of life.

Certified sourcing

Pine from forests that are managed, not mined.

Every board we sell begins in Nordic forests certified under FSC and PEFC — the two major international standards for responsible forestry. Certification means the forest is regrown faster than it's harvested, and the chain from stump to sawmill is independently audited.

From there, the wood is thermally modified in Finland to the ThermoWood® standard using only heat and steam at 212 °C. No copper, no borates, no preservatives — which is why offcuts can be handled, sanded, and burned like untreated wood.

The honest case

Why thermowood is the low-impact choice.

Sustainability claims are easy to make. Here are the four that actually hold up.

Process

Heat and steam only

The entire modification uses two ingredients: heat and steam. No preservatives go in, so nothing leaches into soil or water — over decades on your wall or deck, or at the end of its life.

Sourcing

Certified forests

Our pine comes from FSC- and PEFC-certified Nordic forests, where growth outpaces harvest and the supply chain is independently audited.

Longevity

25+ years is a green number

The most sustainable board is the one you don't replace. A service life of 25+ years means fewer harvests, fewer truckloads, and fewer tear-offs than shorter-lived alternatives.

End of life

No special disposal

Because nothing was added, thermowood is handled like untreated wood at end of life — reuse it, chip it, or burn it. Chemically treated lumber can't say that.

Durable, chemical-free, and from certified forests. Hold it in your hands — order the sample box, or send your project for a price.
